Huge trade to send Rafael Devers to Detroit Tigers

If the Red Sox surprise baseball and trade Rafael Devers, the Detroit Tigers could be the likely destination for the Black Horses.

The Tigers made a fairly obvious move last season, hiring a new Chief of Baseball Operations result, Scott Harris. Al Avila is down, but Detroit still has a roster full of young talent, and an expensive Javy Baez.

Don’t expect Detroit to stretch their rebuild very long, but they do need some help opening the playoff window. Riley Green and Spencer Turkelson, among others, in the majors. It’s time to start winning matches.

The Tigers need another superstar — and a reliable one at that — and they have the young talent to send a massive trade package to Boston. But would the Red Sox consider such a move?

Will the Red Sox trade Rafael Devers?

Devers is unlikely to ever be traded by Boston, especially right now. Losing yet another homegrown star just weeks after Xander Bogaerts signed with the San Diego Padres would be disastrous for Haim Bloom. However, Devers is expected to earn over $300 million in a contract, and there is some question as to whether Red Sox management will want to pick up this tab.

If they don’t plan on signing Devers before the next season, the trade makes sense. You might also get a thing for a star of Devers’ caliber while they still can, right?

Rafael Devers Tigers Trade Pack

Devers will be a free agent after this season, which could lower the price of his services from the “Juan Soto trade package” to something a little more manageable. However, it won’t come cheap.

Get tigers

3B, Rafael Devers

Get the Red Sox

SP, Tariq Scopal

SP, Ty Madden

3B/Justin Henry Malloy

SS, Luis Garcia

This is a solid trade package by the Tigers, who will offer an ace to their staff, as well as a No. 4 prospect in Ty Madden, who could be ready for the MLB as soon as next year. Henry-Malloy is another top-10 player who can play third base if needed, while Luis Garcia is close to MLB ready as well at Top 30 Detroit Job Opportunities.

Trading Rafael Devers should not be an option to Boston. They really should sign him to an expensive contract extension. But if they don’t, this might be the best offer they can get.
