Georgia stuns Ohio State with comeback in classic Peach Bowl: CFB media reacts

The Ohio State Buckeyes stunned the Georgia Bulldogs and the college football media by winning the Peach Bowl CFP Semifinals.

New Year’s Eve 2022 turned out to be the best college football game day, ever. Both matches were exciting. Both games came down to final possession.

For Georgia, that meant overcoming a huge second-half deficit to beat Ohio State at the death.

Stetson Bennett engineered a game-winning drive to put the Bulldogs up 42-41.

Ohio State had a chance to win it when C.J. Stroud drove them into field goal with seconds left on the clock. From there, Noah Ruggles missed a 50-yard attempt, sending Georgia to the College Football Playoff Championship against TCU.

Almost immediately Xavier Johnson and the Buckeyes responded with a touchdown to take a 28-24 halftime lead.

After the break, Ohio State took control of the game. CJ Stroud found Emeka Egbuka from 10 yards out, and the Ruggles made the Buckeyes advantage 38-24 with a field goal.

Georgia launched a comeback in the fourth quarter thanks to a Podelny field goal and a 76-yard touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett to a wide open Arian Smith to pull within three.

Ohio State’s settling for a field goal opened the door for the Bulldogs to drive to take the lead on a 10-yard pass from Bennett to Adonai Mitchell, 42-41. Then came the ill-fated missed field goal that propelled the Dawgs to their second consecutive College Football Playoff National Championship game.
