Jim Harbaugh adds more mystery to the NFL’s head coaching rumors

Will Jim Harbaugh Leave Michigan for the NFL? His recent comments suggest it’s not a done deal, after all.

Jim Harbaugh has already been linked with job opportunities with the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, with The Athletic reporting that if the Michigan coach received an offer, he would likely accept it. This doesn’t look good to the people in Ann Arbor.

However, Harbaugh didn’t make it seem that way. When asked about a possible departure for the NFL, Harbaugh stated that he believes he will be at Michigan to start the 2023 season.

“Although no one knows the future, I think I will coach Michigan next year,” he said. Harbu said.

Harbaugh had a recent conversation with Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper about opening for the team’s head coach, though it was not an official interview.

Will Jim Harbaugh Leave Michigan for the NFL?

It is said that much of Harbaugh’s frustration lies with the unevenness of college football—not necessarily the NIL or anything else. It may be time for a new challenge for Harbaugh, who conquered his Ann Arbor Devils with back-to-back appearances in College Football Playoff games, and a win over Ohio State.

What more could Wolverines fans ask for?

All of this could just be a ploy to get Harbaugh a raise. However, he just got one last chance on the season after Michigan’s boosters cut his salary following the 2020 campaign.

Next Monday (depending on when/whether Bills vs Bengals is rescheduled) is the NFL’s “Black Monday,” when coaches are notorious for firing in droves. The previously unavailable Harbaugh will be wide open, and he can officially assess the landscape since Michigan was eliminated from the College Football Playoff by TCU last Saturday.

For now, this is all a ruse, or perhaps an opportunity to put more pressure on interested NFL teams.
