The Oklahoma City Thunder has just been traded for another pick for the first round in the future

The Oklahoma City Thunder overturned one of their 2022 first-round picks for a future first-rounder in a deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Since Sam Presti became the general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, he’s racked up tons of first-round picks in future NBA drafts. This year, Thunder held three preliminary rounds, which included numbers 2, 12 and 30. Well, one of those went now, as opposed to, you guessed it, another pick for the first round in the future.

According to ESPN’s top NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the 2027 protected first-round Thunder and forward JaMychal Green of the Denver Nuggets were awarded the 30th overall and second-round picks in 2023 and 2024.

Thunder get another futuristic draft of the first round

Very on brand Oklahoma City. But how many first rounds does the team have now after this trade? According to RealGMOklahoma City had 13 potential first-round picks at their disposal from 2023 through 2027, and that includes the pick they just got from Denver.

The Thunder still holds his picks in the top 12 of this year’s NBA Draft. With the second overall pick, they are expected to get one of Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith or Paolo Banchero, the best predictions of the entire class.

Besides coveted recruiting choices, Oklahoma City is getting Green, who as Wojnarowski notes is expected to pick his $8.2 million player option for next season. In 67 games in this campaign (eight starts), Green averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Once again, Presti proved to the NBA world that nothing would stop him from getting first-round picks in the future. Meanwhile, the Nuggets will now have the 21st and 30th nominees in this year’s draft.
