Yankees player Gerrit Cole and manager Aaron Boone were dismissive of Josh Naylor’s celebration of baby swing after an eventual senseless rally.
The Yankees were fighting for their lives after the season on Sunday night against the Guardians. So in the end it was more important to make sure Josh Naylor’s fourth home run didn’t lead to more runs rather than continuing with the unforgettable celebration the Cleveland player fired.
Naylor shook his arms like a baby swing as he circled the bases after cutting New York bullets in one round.
Gerrit Cole said he never saw the celebration himself. Did not matter. He responded as if he only allowed one hit and didn’t run in the aftermath as the Yankees took the match 4, 4-2.
Everything the Yankees Said About Josh Naylor’s Home Celebration
After the match, Cole described the celebration as “cute” in the most insulting way. He seemed neither amused nor unmoved.
Manager Aaron Boone didn’t own any of it either.
We can’t get caught up in that, we’re trying to win,” Boone said.
Some fans will love Nellore’s celebration, seeing it as an injection of character and fun. Others will argue instead that it was layerless. Yankees fans might spend their evening laughing at the backfire.
What matters at the end of the night is that Naylor only managed to pull the Guardian twice in a pivotal game when New York produced four runs to keep their season alive.
It all starts until Monday when the two teams head to the ALCS in Game 5 for the right to head to the ALCS.
New York will have the advantage of the home field. Cleveland will be content to know that they managed to win Game Two at Yankee Stadium.
We’ll see if Jameson Taillon can match Cole’s effort from Game 4 or if Aaron Civale can send out the Guardians.
